Tyler Williams
I’m Tyler Williams a communications consultant based in Calgary. I work with non-profits and small organizations to help them communicate more clearly and effectively — whether that means understanding what isn’t working, finding a clearer direction, or producing communications that appeal to their audiences.
My starting point is always a conversation. Before any work begins, I want to understand what you’re trying to achieve, what’s prompted the question, and what you’ve already tried. That information shapes everything that follows.
I ask a lot of questions. The right solution depends on a clear understanding of the situation, and that understanding takes time to develop. Sometimes that means working through a project as requested. Sometimes I suggest a different approach. Occasionally, it means telling a client that someone else would serve them better, and helping them find that person.
The work itself is collaborative. You bring the knowledge of your organization and your audience. I bring the writing, design, and communication thinking. The best results come from both.

I’ve worked in communications since 2008, starting as a graphic designer before expanding into writing, strategy, and consulting work. In 2016, I launched Heard Communications, focusing on non-profits and small organizations in Calgary.
Over the years, I’ve worked alongside a wide range of organizations, from large public institutions to small community groups. The most useful thing that experience has taught me is not to assume I understand how an organization works just because I’ve worked with a similar one before. Every organization has its own context, so I approach each project as a distinct one rather than fitting it into a predetermined solution.
