Communications Support for Non‑Profits and Small Organizations

Thoughtful, evidence based help for clearer, more effective communication

Good communication is harder than it looks, and most organizations know it. The message that doesn’t land, the materials that don’t get used, the project that takes longer than expected because the direction wasn’t quite clear enough to begin with.

I’m Tyler. I’ve worked in communications since 2008 and, since 2016, as a consultant with non-profits and small organizations in Calgary. In that time, I’ve learned that the projects that go well tend to share something in common: someone asked the right questions before the work began.

That’s the thread running through everything I do. Whether a project calls for diagnostic work, a clearer strategy, or hands-on writing and design, the starting point is always understanding what you’re trying to achieve and making sure the approach is likely to get you there.

If that sounds like the kind of support you’re looking for, I’d be glad to hear from you.

How I can support you

I’ve organized my work into three areas. Where to start depends on how much groundwork has already been done. Some projects begin with diagnostic work to get a clearer picture. Others start with strategy to establish direction. Many begin with a specific deliverable already in mind. Any of those is a reasonable place to begin a conversation.

How I work

Every project starts with a conversation. Not an intake form or a formal brief, just a conversation about what you’re working on, what you’re trying to achieve, and where you’re feeling stuck or uncertain.

From there, I’ll suggest an approach that fits your situation and outline a clear plan before any work begins. If the project calls for something outside what I do well, I’ll tell you that too and try to point you toward someone better suited to help.

Not sure where to start? That’s enough to begin a conversation.
